Dear Visual Communication,

As the WIP show draws near, we thought it would be a great time to open Export Radio’s doors to the rest of the Visual Communication class of 2021. Export is an opportunity to re-invigorate the public through worldwide collaboration and discussion, building bridges in a post-Brexit, mid-Covid19 environment, and the upcoming WIP show couldn’t come at a better time to act on these focal points along with all of you guys!

The Radio Station is currently situated at Ridley Road Social Club in Dalston. As we have a dedicated space, it would be fantastic if the rest of the Viscom Cohort could utilise this space to help articulate current projects through the Export Radio mouthpiece, in time for the WIP show and beyond.

A few months ago, Export won the Varley Memorial Award 2020. You can read about that here. The main aim of our concept is to generate an archive of student work coming from the Visual Communication class to create a useful tool that future students can use as a creative research tool or point of inspiration for their own projects. As well as archiving work, we would also like to archive conversation, points of interest or even just your casual creative thoughts and sketches. A great way to either share work, or just a chat could be through broadcasting your ideas on the weekly Export Radio schedule.

What does this mean for you?

Reasons to present on Export Radio could be that the:

  • project has auditory / conversational elements
  • project has digital, conceptual, ephemeral, theoretical or process based content
  • project can convey a strong story / narrative
  • project needs to be presented and elaborated on

What do you have to do now?

If you think your work is suitable to present on Export Radio, please get in touch with us by the 18th December.

Please also choose one or more categories from below that you would consider being a suitable format for you to bring to the radio platform. Closer to the execution of WIP 2021 we will set the scheduled time slots for all the submissions and share them with you via email.

Formats of the Show

        *#Presentation + Q&A - 5 - 10 min*

A product pitch, a research presentation, a concept presentation, the angle is up to you. With a presentation you can practice your stage experience, your way of talking with or to an audience as well as sharpen your project for future clients, pitches etc.

        *#Performance (Q+A is optional) 5 - 10 min*

Some things can not be talked about but needs to be acted out. With a performance you can use props, audience and your body to unpack the concepts.

        *#Organised Debate/Round Table - 45 - 60 min*

Students, department heads and others can invite guests to the stage to discuss social, political, local and worldly things related to the design discourse. What’s on the agenda? Do you want to unpack your project in a debate? Who would you like to invite? What are the key questions?

        *#Other suggestion*

Export Radio is a space for students and the RCA to show themselves, any other suggestions are also welcome.

We will do our utmost to provide a platform for you to unpack the design discourses within your current ongoing projects. Please get in touch if you have any further questions and if you would like to participate, please join our zoom call on the 16th of December, from 1:30-2:30!
